A Filipino fiesta inspired Christmas party by LifeBox — a non profit organization — about looking back to the story behind all the festivities of the season. Held December 3, 2014, it was a night of acoustics and holiday-themed activities.
Instead of the cold hues associated to winter, vibrant and lively colors are commonly associated to Filipino holidays due to its tropical and equatorial setting. Bolder shades of warm colors represent the energetic and joyful atmosphere associated to Filipino fiestas which strongly influences the visuals of a Chirstmas in the Philippines.
A traditional Filipino icon called “parol” or the Christmas star lantern is used for the main visual of the event.
“Parol” is derived from the Spanish word “farol” meaning lantern.
It is a reminder of the star of Bethlehem that guided the three wise men on their way to baby Jesus.
A book that pops open to the “parol” sits atop a lectern as a reference to the Bible being on one during a Catholic mass which also happens to be part of holiday traditions in a dominantly Catholic country.
